WHO WE ARE
Giovanni Carlo Vesce (alias GC; JC; Giancarlo, or Giovanni) is the youngest of the five Vesce siblings, who together with their children, grandchildren, and kin, form a large, ancient family.
Born in Naples in 1951, GC was a veterinarian for about fifty years, as well as a university professor of animal surgery and anesthesia, and a member and scholar of the Pontaniana Academy.
In addition to these commitments, for the last four decades, GC has managed the family farm, taking care of the land, the vineyards, and the cellar.
On the threshold of retirement, and coinciding with the isolation imposed by the pandemic, GC has been living for the last two years in Pietradefusi (AV), the country of origin of his paternal family. Having known wine and the vineyard since childhood, and having cultivated a passion for them, it seemed right for GC to dedicate the remaining years of his life to the intriguing and enduring world of wine.
Instead of a quiet retirement, GC has embarked on the demanding journey of oenology, pursuing this ancient craft that has been as fascinating to him as was the profession of veterinary medicine and surgery.
Today, GC is a student in the Degree Course in Viticulture and Oenology at the Avellino branch of the Agriculture Department of the Federico II University, the same university which has already seen him once a student and for a long time a passionate teacher and researcher.
The wines he presents here, Case Arse D.O.C. (designation of origin) and Leo Cubans D.O.C. (about 2,500 bottles each), are his first creations, crafted for public consumption, and made from the finest grapes of his Aglianico vineyards. These vineyards have the potential and terroir of being labeled Taurasi D.O.C.G., the highest denomination in the official hierarchy of Italian wines.
Giovanni Carlo GC has eco-friendly run the family’s vineyards and wine cellar since 1982. He considers his vines to be works created by nature and perfected by his continuous care. Through a rigorous selection of grapes at the time of harvest and a scrupulous vinification process, GC has created wines of exceptional refinement and quality.
